Moms and Guns

Parenting comes with a laundry list of responsibilities. I have an obligation to help my son become a responsible, self-sufficient and productive member of society. But my primary objective right now is simply keeping him safe.

I've already bemoaned the liberal agenda's effect on the generation of Americans we are trying to raise right (See No. 5 here) but the president won't stop there. Nope. Although his daughters are guarded around the clock by armed security, the rest of us are not worthy of the right to protect ourselves. But this is just one message to take away from his list of 23 executive actions issued today under the guise of deterring gun violence.

The other message is that the U.S. government is absolutely determined to control our lives. While many of our friends choose to live in blissful ignorance of this fact--buried in overtime hours, after-school sports, reality TV and Facebook--there is simply no getting around the evidence if you choose to pay attention. This blogger points out several reasons why gun control has no basis in reality. For one, the shooting in Sandy Hook violated several laws already. In addition to subsidizing generations of government dependency, we have the Patriot Act and the Affordable Care Act both of which infringe on our civil liberties in the name of safety and health.

"To disarm the people... was the best and most effectual way to enslave them." (George Mason, speech of June 14, 1788)

And so here we are in 2013 staring down the barrel of gun control.

Yesterday's development is just the next step to full revocation of the Second Amendment, a cornerstone to the Constitution. If you don't believe this is possible, just take a look at this video which shows guns being seized from law-abiding citizens after Hurricane Katrina.

So what does this mean for a mom? We have a duty to protect our children. I've already begun learning some basic gun safety and I am planning to take a conceal and carry class (they are popping up everywhere due to demand). Eventually it will be necessary to teach my son about the importance of dangers of guns. In this post I looked at safety measures in place at our elementary school.

Check out this story from Smart Girl Politics which talks about A Woman's Right to Choose. Get educated about firearms and your constitutional rights. The right to carry a weapon is nothing to fear! You should be afraid of burglars, rapists and a tyrannical government!

“It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from its government.” - Thomas Paine (1737-1809), American Revolutionary, US Founding Father and Author

  2. Thx Lisa. Makes me sad to see parents of Sandy Hook being used as pawns in this game of gun control.
